Update on Linus

Linus relaxing at the farm before he left for the hospital, June 29th, 2009.

I spoke with the technicians at the clinic today and they told me that Linus is doing very well! His appetite is back to normal and he seems comfortable. He is on antibiotics and pain relievers, and will be for the next 10 days.

I never thought I'd be so excited to to say this, but... Linus peed this morning! That means that there are no blockages and everything works like normal. He had a catheter stitched into place and the entire area bandaged, so it is staying clean while it heals.

The plan is to keep him under supervision at the clinic for the next few days. His catheter will be removed Friday morning, and if all looks good, I will bring him home Friday afternoon.

I will keep everyone updated as I hear news about him!

  1. Keeping my fingers crossed that Linus continues to do well. Glad that he is a good patient.

  2. Yay! Glad that the surgery went well, and everything's healing up as it should! It's very fitting that this sweet old boy has ended up with someone who cares for her horses so well.

  3. Yay! So glad things are on the up and up! Only animal people could understand how we can get so excited about something going to the bathroom!

  4. Woooohoooo! So happy to hear that Linus is being a good patient and healing up well. :-) I'm sure he will be thrilled to be back home at your farm, getting spoiled by all of those adoring little girls. He looks like such a lovely horse and he's lucky to have found you.

  5. Reading about Faith and Linus' rescue stories have reminded me of one of my favorite childhood books, "Skyrocket: The Story of a Little Bay Horse." It's told from the horse's perpective and tells the story of his life, from a charmed upbringing to eventual abuse and neglect, then rescue and rehab. It's kind of a modern-day Black Beauty. You should pick up a copy if you can find one - I think it would offer you even further inspiration.
Keep up the good work! :-)
